Just when we thought 2016 couldn’t get any weirder, we found ourselves reading all about some of the weirdest tress in the world. Well, here at Ashley Tree Services we thought we’d give you a brief rundown of some of the strangest trees out there, and some of them really are remarkable.
- El Arbol de la Sabina
This tree is native to the El Hierro Island in Spain. Its name translates to the Juniper Tree and it produces a liquid which becomes gin when it is distilled. Its bizarre shape, which is bent over at the trunk, is due to the winds that always change it.
- The Tree of Tule
Supposedly around 300 years old, this tree has the largest and stoutest trunk in the world, and it lives on the church ground in Oaxaca in Mexico.
- Sculpture Trees
Axel Erlandson is king in the world of arborsculpture. He created sculpted trees so that people would find joy and surprise when looking at them. You should give them a quick Google search, they are pretty amazing designs!
- The Boab Prison Tree
Located in western Australia, this 1500 year-old tree didn’t get its name from nowhere. The tree was once used in order to keep prisoners overnight when they were being transported from one location to another. Although it is fenced off, many people still find a way inside.
- The Dragon Tree
This tree, which has intertwined branches, is native to the Canary Islands. It produces Dragon’s Blood which is a medicinal sap used for health purposes and as a stain.
